Laura
Laura Malia Dunn has been practicing the Ashtanga method for the past 11 years and teaching since 2004. Her initial teacher training – a 200-hour certification – was with Rupali Embry and certified Ashtanga teacher Anthony "Prem" Carlisi. In 2005, Laura took her first trip to Mysore, India to study with Sri K Pattabhi Jois. She also completed a year-long Ashtanga Yoga apprenticeship with Cathy Louise Broda.

Laura's teaching is informed by her ongoing studies of religion and philosophy at the University of Hawaii. Additionally, she studied Sanskrit for three years with Rama Nath Sharma, professor of Sanskrit studies at the University of Hawaii.

A major part of Laura's yoga practice involves "bringing together" the fragmented self. Laura draws from a background in Buddhist meditation and the study of Buddhist philosophy and yogic texts. She also holds her second degree in Reiki. Laura's teaching emphasizes both steadiness and ease in an effort to strike a balance between the tension of opposites in life as well as in yoga practice. She teaches students to cultivate the longevity of their practice through adopting an attitude of discipline, patience, and non-attachment.
